Demonstration Projects
SSFC students helped install
nestboxes at Windy Ridge CA.
The LWCC has worked on a number of demonstration projects on both public and private lands. These projects offer practical examples of forest stewardship, including tree planting, economic harvest, and wetland stewardship.
A wetland project was completed at Windy Ridge Conservation Area in partnership with Kawartha Conservation, Ducks Unlimited, Partners in Wetlands Conservation, and Sir Sanford Fleming College. Nestboxes were being installed to increase the availability of nesting sites for Wood Ducks and other cavity nesting birds. Landowners interested in placing nestboxes on their own property may find the Build a Duck Nestbox factsheet helpful, and can contact Ducks Unlimited for additional information.
The public is welcome to visit Windy Ridge CA at any time to view the wood duck box installation. Projects on private lands may be visited in future workshops such as those hosted by the LWCC or local stewardship councils.
